Kindergarten Curriculum
At Folsom Lake Montessori Academy we offer a full time and part time Kindergarten
program based on the Montessori Philosophy covering 5 different areas of learning. These
areas are Practical Life, Sensorial, Cultural (which incorporates Botany, Zoology, Geography and
History), Math and Language. Each area has a wonderful choice of Montessori Materials and
teacher made activities (jobs). We follow a Curriculum based on Continent studies and Holiday
themes.
Our Montessori uninterrupted work period is 2.5 hours long. Within the Montessori
environment, the children will work through various tasks and responsibilities at their own
pace under the supervision of the guides (Teachers). This uninterrupted work period helps in
building of coordination, concentration, independence and order, and the assimilation of
information will occur. In addition to our extensive Reading Program and Math Curriculum, the
afternoons are geared to spend more time improving their handwriting, working with Math and
Language workbooks as well special art and science projects.
Our Guides (teachers) are very experienced and specially trained to follow the child’s needs
by getting to know them well and help them meet and exceed their academic goals of the
kindergarten year. The beauty of Montessori program is that we can offer a child even first to
third grade work if they are ready to meet the challenge.
Kindergarteners also have the possibility to be student mentors to younger children and
teach them and help them and become role models. This builds even greater understanding of
what they have learned and develops maturity. We have periodical public speaking and debate
sessions which will help them to become well-rounded students ready for the next grade level.
The above sessions, we start with sharing an item from home to their peers and talk about as a
topic and thus make them participate without any fear or force.
The care of our environment is also a big part of our classroom. Children participate in
making and keeping the classroom and playground neat and beautiful. They also learn how to
care for others and even living creatures. Our goal is to make them good citizens of the world
with excellent life learning skills
